Parametric Designs for an Olympic Aquatic Centre
Research-Lab: Amphibious Hamburg
The publication documents the research laboratory of the Academy for Architectural Culture (aac) “Amphibious Hamburg: Parametric Designs for an Olympic Aquatic Centre“, which took place at Campus Rainvilleterrasse in Hamburg in summer of 2014, in co-operation with the Copenhagen based research Centre for Information Technology and Architecture (CITA).
The research laboratory focused on the examination of the application of parametric programmes in the early design phases. Special attention was given to the aspects of “definition of useful objects for parametric programming in a large-scale design assignment”, “consideration of material characteristics in the design – immediate review of digital assumptions by means of a physical model” and “interdisciplinary process”.
The articles and interviews with people participating in the laboratory highlight their different experiences and points of view; illustrate insights reached at the aac Research Lab and show drawings from the designs proposed.
