Gerhard Hausladen was born in 1947. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Munich Technical University and later became Scientific Assistant at the university. In 1980 he received his doctorate and in 1986 founded an engineering consultancy for mechanical and electrical services, building physics and energy technology. From 1992 to 2001 he was Professor of Technical Building Equipment at Kassel University. Gerhard Hausladen is the founder of the Centre for Environment-conscious Building; since 2001 he has been Professor at Munich Technical University and Chairman of the Board of ClimaDesign e.V.

ClimaDesign sees itself as a network of the Munich Technical University for the support of energy- and climate-optimised building.
