Description of Workshop Topic
The aac Workshop USA Special deals with the ExxonMobil Building, a high-rise also know as Exxon Tower located in Houston, Texas.
The aim is to transform this icon of fossil fuel monopoly towards a carbon free community, developing lots of additional skills, knowledge and connections.
aac workshop in Hamburg by the aac Academy for Architectural Culture. Workshop brief by aac in collaboration with Charles Renfro, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, New York. Kick-off excursion in Houston in collaboration with Rice University School of Architecture, Houston, Texas.
aac candidates can apply for two main benefits. The first is the gmp Foundation scholarship, which covers the tuition fees for the course in Hamburg and Houston. The tuition fees include all working materials and return travel costs* between Houston and Hamburg. The second is free accommodation in Hamburg (shared room) during the workshop period and in Houston during the excursion, offered by aac.
* Regarding travel costs: Participants may join the course in either Houston or Hamburg. Return travel between Houston and Hamburg will be covered by aac. Travel to and from the course is the responsibility of each participant. For example: a participant from NYC can join the course in Houston. Subsequent travel from Houston to Hamburg and back to Houston is covered by aac. How to get from NYC to Houston for the course and how to get back from Houston to NYC after the course is up to the student.
Description of Workshop Format
The designs will be conceptualised and developed in international groups. In addition to tutorials and interim presentations, the workshop will be accompanied by a public lecture programme.
The workshop begins with a three-day kick-off in Houston, Texas.
Following the workshop, the results will be shown in the form of an exhibition on the premises of the aac in Hamburg.
